Google adds option to instantly delete your last 15 minutes of search history

There’s also a new way to protect your search history on shared devices...

Google is launching a new privacy feature for search that lets you instantly delete your last 15 minutes of search history on mobile, the company announced on Thursday. The new option was first revealed alongside several other search and Chrome improvements at I/O 2021 and is now rolling out to everyone.

The option to delete your last 15 minutes of search history is currently only available in Google’s iOS app and is headed to Android later this year. On desktop, your options for deleting searches are limited to setting your history to auto-delete every three, 18, or 36 months (18 months is the default for new accounts), or deleting searches by hand.

Google says it only tracks your search history to “personalize” your experience when the “Web and App Activity” setting is enabled. Adding a way to instantly delete your history is great for your peace of mind, but it also means you can get some of the benefits the people who’ve taken the time to mess with their settings receive, without doing the extra work. Think of it as an emergency “oh no” button for terrible, embarrassing, or just plain private searches. If you’d rather just secure your searches from prying, non-Google eyes rather than delete them, Google also offers the option to password protect your search history.

Windows 7 users upgrade to Windows 11 ? - Lenovo’s guide reveals

Windows 11 upgrade: While the guide has been posted for Lenovo users, this likely applies to other devices as well that are using the outdated version of Windows.
If you are still using Windows 7 and plan to upgrade to Windows 11, then it might be possible, but will require a fresh install.  Lenovo has published a Windows 11 FAQ page, which is based on inputs from Microsoft. It reveals that Windows 7 users will be able to upgrade to Windows 11 via a fresh install. So, users will have to back up their data before performing a ‘clean’ installation of Windows 11 on the PC.

“Most devices available for purchase now will be upgradeable to Windows 11. You will have the option to upgrade, clean install, or reimage Windows 10 devices to move to Windows 11. For Windows 7 devices that meet hardware requirements, you will need to clean install or reimage to go directly to Windows 11,” the guide on Lenovo’s website reads.

While this guide has been posted for Lenovo users, it likely applies to other devices as well that are using the outdated version of Windows. But, before that, you should make sure that your PC is compatible with Windows 11.

Microsoft says users will be able to install Windows 11 on those PCs that are running Intel 8th generation chips, AMD Zen 2 chips, Qualcomm 7/8 series chips or newer versions. Earlier users could download Microsoft’s “PC Health Check app” to find if your current PC meets the requirements to run Windows 11. However, Microsoft acknowledged the app had caused a lot of confusion around Windows 11 requirements and has temporarily suspended it.

Microsoft says the app will be back in fall when Windows 11 is ready for a general release. For now, users will have to go to the Microsoft Windows 11 website to see the basic system requirements.
For now, Microsoft says that Windows 11 requires CPUs to have an embedded TPM, support secure boot, with more than 1Ghz speed, dual-core processors. A minimum of 4GB RAM and 64GB storage is also needed.

Sunday 4 July 2021

As expected, Apple took steps to bolster its privacy credentials at WWDC 2021, announcing a slew of new privacy changes that will affect popular iPhone apps and services. If you're like me -- one of the billion-plus people in this world who use an iPhone -- then I'd say it's worth getting a head start on the slew of new privacy updates coming to your iPhone (and iPads) hopefully sometime in the fall, with Apple's latest mobile software iOS 15. The public beta is has already however, so if you're comfortable with potential bugs, you can go ahead and download iOS 15 right now.

In a nutshell, the privacy changes, unveiled in June, will give you better control of the data you're sharing with third parties and will tell you how those apps are using data from your Apple devices. In some cases, the changes also limit data collection. Even though these privacy changes might not drastically change your day-to-day experience -- except maybe in the case of Siri -- they're worth knowing about. They can alter how your Apple device interacts with the internet, specifically third parties that crave your personal information.

Siri gets more secure thanks to in-device audio processing

With iOS 15, one of the biggest privacy concerns for voice assistants will be stamped out, according to Apple.

Unlike Amazon Echo and virtually all other competitors, Siri will no longer ship your audio to servers for processing. Instead it'll process the sound of your voice directly on your Apple device, thanks to on-device speech recognition. Apple said iPhones and iPads will take advantage of processing power on Apple devices to analyze speech, meaning Siri will no longer need an active internet connection to function. For you that means, Siri will respond to basic commands such as setting an alarm, setting a reminder or launching an app while offline. This update doesn't include asking Siri to search the web for something.

Beyond amped-up privacy, Apple says you can expect Siri's response time to speed up for some requests, since the audio processing can now happen offline.

As I said earlier, some privacy features have a catch. For this one, Only iPhone and iPads stacked with the A12 Bionic chip can take advantage of Siri's in-device audio processing when it rolls out.

App Privacy report will give you important info on third-party access to data and sensors

If you were a fan of Apple's App Tracking Transparency feature, then you'll probably love the App Privacy report too. Taking a page from Safari's playbook, the report will be a new section accessible in Settings, giving you an overview of how apps treat your privacy. You can see when individual apps request to access features like the camera, microphone, and also see where or with whom your data might be shared within the last seven days, bringing an added layer of transparency to iOS 15.

Safari & Mail Privacy Protection: Hides your IP address

Apple's Mail Privacy protection feature coming to the Mail app will limit the amount of data senders collect from you when you open their promotional emails or even newsletters. In particular, the feature will give you the option to hide your IP address, so it can't be linked to other online activity or used to determine their location. This feature can potentially block spammy email marketers from learning more about your email or internet activity.

iCloud Plus private relay feature encrypts web traffic

Apple also announced the paid subscribers to iCloud Plus will get a couple of new privacy features.

One of them is Safari's private relay feature, which is designed to hide an individual's web browsing behavior from advertisers and internet service providers. It'll do this by encrypting the traffic leaving an Apple device, so that it cannot be intercepted by third-parties including Apple, who can then go on to read what's being searched for.

The second feature is called hide my email. If you're a subscriber, it will let you enter a randomly generated email when you're signing up for things -- such as a new account with an online retailer -- and the feature will have whatever it's sent forwarded directly to your actual email address. The idea is that fewer companies will have access to people's direct email addresses.

Windows 11 May Be Available as a Free Upgrade for Windows 7, Windows 8.1 Users

Windows 11 May Be Available as a Free Upgrade for Windows 7, Windows 8.1 Users

Windows 11 could be made available as a free upgrade for not just Windows 10 users but also for those running Windows 7 and Windows 8.1. Some references about the enhanced upgrade support have emerged from a recently leaked Windows 11 build ahead of its formal announcement. Microsoft previously ran a similar free upgrade programme for Windows 10. It was aimed at bringing more and more users to the latest Windows operating system and safely move people from older platforms that were no longer supported by Microsoft.

XDA Developers spotted some product configuration keys in the leaked Windows 11 build that carry titles of Windows 7 and Windows 8.1. These keys could be an indication of Microsoft bringing Windows 11 as a free upgrade for users on older Windows operating systems.

However, it is interesting to note that Windows 8 isn't a part of the configuration keys. This suggests that users on Windows 8 may be required to upgrade to Windows 8.1 before moving to Windows 11.

According to the data provided by analytics platform Statcounter, Windows 7 is the second-biggest Windows operating system worldwide after Windows 10, with 15.52 percent of the market share as of May. It is followed by Windows 8.1 that has 3.44 percent share. In contrast, Windows 8 has 1.27 percent share.

Windows 11 launch is set for June 24. But ahead of its debut, the new operating system has been detailed through its leaked build that suggested a new Start menu and some other major interface-level changes. Windows 10 users will get Windows 11 as a free upgrade following its release, though it's unclear whether it will be available for older generation operating systems immediately.

In the past, Microsoft has run a free upgrade programme for Windows 10 that enabled users on Windows 7 and later versions to move to the latest operating system. And although the Redmond, Washington-based company ended the free upgrades in 2017, users on Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 were found to have the option available till a few months back.

Battlegrounds Mobile India Beta Released for Download [Update: Early Access Now Available to All]

Battlegrounds Mobile India, the PUBG Mobile replacement, is finally available to play, sort of. The game was available in open beta but only to a limited number of testers. More slots will be added over the course of the day, the company said in a press statement. Battlegrounds Mobile India was announced in the first week of May and went up for pre-registrations on May 18. Since then, fans have been eagerly waiting to play the game.

Krafton, through its official Battlegrounds Mobile India Facebook page shared that the game in is Early Access or open beta and that fans can download and play. However, it looks like the beta was only available for a short time to a limited number of beta testers and the beta programme is full on Google Play. The beta testing link either shows an ‘Internal server error' or a message that says the testing programme has reached the maximum number of testers.

Update: On Friday, Krafton announced in a post on the Battlegrounds Mobile India Facebook page that the Early Access build is now available to everyone, with company seeming to have made more slots available in the beta programme. You can access it from the beta testing link seen above. Those who get on board during this Early Access period will get the following in-game items: 1x Supply Crate Coupon, 2x EXP Card, and a 2x BP Card.

One of the users got Early Access to Battlegrounds Mobile India today and the screenshot shared on Twitter shows the game will be 721MB in size. Along with users who were able to get access, there are quite a few who weren't able to and have shared their disappointment on Twitter.

Ershad Kaleebullah from MySmartPrice shared some gameplay footage from Battlegrounds Mobile India along with some observations. The in-game blood is green instead of red, there are quite a few warnings about safe gaming, data can be carried over from PUBG Mobile, and an OTP is not required to log in. Even the map and settings options seem to be the same as PUBG Mobile.

This open beta comes one day ahead of the expected launch date of June 18 which makes it seem like the game will not launch tomorrow. Past leaks had suggested that Krafton will release the game to the public on June 18 but there has been no confirmation from the developer.

Battlegrounds Mobile India is the Indian version of PUBG Mobile that was banned in the country last September. It comes with some tweaks, which have now been made somewhat clearer. The game is essentially PUBG Mobile as the battle royale experience is the same.

Samsung, Vivo See Strong Growth; Apple Smartphone Shipments Dip in Q1 2021: Strategy Analytics

Strategy Analytics has released its first quarter report for global 5G smartphone shipments. Samsung and Vivo saw the highest gains in the last quarter. Samsung shipped 17 million units in Q1 2021, compared to 9.5 million shipments in the last quarter of 2020, seeing a growth of 79 percent. This is likely due to the launch of the Galaxy S21 series early in January. Even Vivo's global 5G shipments totalled at 19.4 million, seeing a quarter-on-quarter (QoQ) growth of 62 percent.

While Samsung and Vivo were the fastest growing 5G smartphone vendors in Q1 2021, Apple still led the pack with a total of 40.4 million shipments, Strategy Analytics reports. In comparison to the last quarter, wherein it shipped 52.2 million smartphones, Apple shipments declined by 23 percent. Just below Apple was Oppo with 21.5 million shipments in the first quarter, seeing a growth of 55 percent. Vivo and Samsung take the third and fourth position, respectively. Xiaomi comes in the fifth position with 16.6 million with 41 percent growth. Apple is the only vendor in the top five that saw a decline in growth.

Strategy Analytics says that Samsung is performing well with its new 5G models — Galaxy S21 5G, Galaxy S21 Ultra 5G and Galaxy S21+ 5G — in South Korea, North America, and parts of Europe. Vivo's shipments were driven by iQoo U3 5G and iQoo U7 5G smartphones in China and Europe regions.

Ken Hyers, Director, Strategy Analytics, said in a statement, “Global 5G smartphone shipments grew a healthy 6 percent QoQ and hit a record 136 million units during the first quarter of 2021. Demand for 5G smartphones remains very strong, particularly in China, United States, and Western Europe. We forecast global 5G smartphone shipments to reach a record 624 million units for the full-year 2021, soaring from 269 million in full-year 2020.”

Immunity-Boosting Beverages to Drink When You’re Sick

 1. Orange, grapefruit, and other citrus

Wallpaper lemon, orange, citrus, lemon, wood, grapefruit, orange, grapefruit images for desktop, section макро - download

Vitamin C has antioxidant properties, which protect your cells from substances that damage the body.

A vitamin C deficiency can lead to delayed wound healing, an impaired immune response, and the inability to properly fight infections.

There’s currently no evidence that oral vitamin C is effective in preventing transmission of the new coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2) or treating the disease it causes, COVID-19.

However, research has shown promise for intravenous (IV) infusion of vitamin C as a COVID-19 treatment.

More clinical trials are in the works for treatment, not prevention, using IV infusion, not oral therapy.

However, if you have a cold, high doses of vitamin C might result in less severe symptoms and a quicker recovery. For adults, the tolerable upper limit is 2,000 milligrams (mg) a day.

2. Tomato

Buy 1+1 Free - Tomato Round - Desi Vegetable Seeds online from Nurserylive at lowest price.

The best way to be sure your tomato juice is fresh and doesn’t contain a lot of added ingredients is to make it yourself. Simply Recipes has a wonderful recipe that only calls for a few ingredients.

The best part? No juicer or blender is required, although you’ll want to strain the bits and pieces through a sieve.

Tomatoes are rich in vitamin B-9, commonly known as folate. It helps lower your risk of infections. Tomatoes also provide modest amounts of magnesium, an anti-inflammatory.

3. Strawberry and mango

Refreshing Strawberry & Mango Salad with Mint & Lime Recipe by Shinae - Cookpad

Feel Good Foodie’s strawberry mango smoothie is the healthy way to satisfy your cravings for a bottomless brunch. This recipe uses some frozen fruit, which packs the same nutritional punch as fresh fruit.

You can also opt for using all fresh fruits if you have them on hand.

The vitamin E from the mango and almond milk adds extra antioxidant benefits to enhance the immune system, especially in older adults

4. Watermelon, mint

AMAZING* Watermelon Mint Salad | Lauren's Latest

Not only is watermelon rich in vitamin C and arginine (which can bolster your immune system), but it also can help relieve muscle soreness. Muscle soreness is a common symptom of the flu, especially in older adults.

The heavy water content of this fruit may also make it easier to juice (and it feels like less of a waste of fruit).

You can also mix watermelon juice with other plain fruit juices, such as apple or orange, that may not have as much vitamin A.

5. Beet, carrot, ginger, and apple

Immune Boosters Juice With Beetroot & Ginger - Elavegan | Recipes

This fortifying juice by Minimalist Baker features three root vegetables that’ll help your immune system and decrease inflammatory symptoms.

Inflammation is often an immune response to infections originating from viruses or bacteria. Cold or flu symptoms include a runny nose, coughs, and body aches.

People who have rheumatoid arthritis may find this juice especially beneficial, as ginger has anti-inflammatory effects.

6. Green apple, carrot, and orange

GREEN APPLE (USA) – Wadhera Fruits

Carrots, apples, and oranges are a winning combination for helping your body protect itself and fight off infections.

The apples and oranges give you your vitamin C.

Vitamin A, which is also critical to a healthy immune systemTrusted Source, is present in carrots in the form of the antioxidant beta carotene.

The carrots also contain vitamin B-6, which plays an important role in immune cell proliferation and antibody production.

The tartness of the green apples really cuts through the sweetness of the carrots and oranges.

7. Strawberry and kiwi

Strawberry Kiwi Tartlets | Love and Olive Oil

Strawberries and kiwis are other healthy options to include in a vitamin C-packed drink. Since it takes about 4 cups of strawberries to make 1 cup of juice, you may want to blend these fruits into a smoothie rather than a juice.

Many people are deficient in vitamin D, which is largely found in sunlight and in smaller amounts in animal products. Healthy levels, achieved through sunlight, diet, or supplements, reduce your risk of respiratory infections like pneumonia or the flu.

Some recent research suggests a connection between vitamin D deficiency and infection rates and severity. Clinical trials are needed to determine whether it has the same effect on SARS-CoV-2, the new coronavirus.

For an additional boost, swap the milk for a few ounces of probiotic-rich Greek yogurt. Taking probiotics may help your cells maintain an antimicrobial barrier. Probiotics are commonly found in supplements and fermented foods.

8. Kale, tomato, and celery

Apple Carrot Celery and Kale Juice - Loving It Vegan

Kale is a staple in many green juices, but the Kale Mary — Tesco’s take on a bloody Mary — is truly one of a kind.

Instead of cutting the taste of kale with sweet fruits, this recipe uses tomato juice, adding more than enough vitamin A.

Adding some spicy horseradish to this recipe may also provide anti-inflammatory benefits, according to some research. Blend it up for a drink that’ll awaken your senses.4

9. Pumpkin seed

The pumpkin seeds are a great source of zinc. Zinc is already a common ingredient in many cold remedies, due to its positive effect on both inflammation and the immune system.

It’s one of the freshest, most natural recipes available online. It works as a great base for fruit smoothies too.

10. Green apple, lettuce, and kale

The Ultimate Green Smoothie - Jessica Gavin

A vegetable-based green juice is a powerhouse of nutrients that promote a strong immune system.

Throw in a handful of parsley or spinach for some extra vitamins A, C, and K.

Tinder Will Now Let Users Block People in Their Phone Contacts to Avoid Awkward Encounters on the App

Tinder will finally be letting users avoid all their exes, friends, colleagues, relatives, and anyone else they might not want to run into on a dating app. The company announced today that it will start allowing people to block their phone contacts.

According to The Verge, romance-seekers can access the feature from their settings, under the Block Contacts menu, where they can define which contact they would like to block, meaning these people will not surface for them, and vice versa.

Users can either upload their full contacts list to Tinder or add them individually. Tinder said it will not store everyone's contacts, only the ones they have chosen to block and people can unblock or disconnect their contacts list at any time.

Blocked contacts will not be notified they have been blocked. There is no easy way of knowing if an ex or other undateworthy person even has a Tinder account, it's more of a preventative measure. If a blocked individual has since changed their phone number and joins Tinder, their account could still surface.

Those who wanted to avoid the possibility of an awkward digital run-in forever, this might, finally, give them a fighting chance at doing so.

Apple, Google, Amazon, Other Tech Giants May Have to Pay Much Higher Taxes as G7 Nations Reach Landmark Deal

The United States, Britain, and other leading nations reached a landmark deal on Saturday to pursue higher global taxation on multinational businesses such as Google, Apple, and Amazon. In a move that could raise hundreds of billions of dollars to help them cope with the aftermath of COVID-19, the Group of Seven large advanced economies agreed to back a minimum global corporate rate of at least 15 percent and for companies to pay more tax in the markets where they sell goods and services.

"G7 finance ministers have reached a historic agreement to reform the global tax system to make it fit for the global digital age," British finance minister Rishi Sunak said after chairing a two-day meeting in London.

US Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen said the "significant, unprecedented commitment" would end what she called a race to the bottom on global taxation.

The deal, which was years in the making, also promises to end national digital services taxes levied by Britain and other European countries which the United States said unfairly targeted U.S. technology giants.

However, the measures will first need to find broader agreement at a meeting of the G20 - which includes a number of emerging economies - due to take place next month in Venice.

"It's complicated and this is a first step," Sunak said.

The ministers also agreed to move towards making companies declare their environmental impact in a more standard way so investors can decided more easily whether to fund them, a key goal for Britain.

Rich nations have struggled for years to agree a way to raise more revenue from large multinationals such as Google, Amazon, and Facebook, which often book profits in jurisdictions where they pay little or no tax.

US President Joe Biden's administration gave the stalled talks fresh impetus by proposing a minimum global corporation tax rate of 15 percent, above the level in countries such as Ireland but below the lowest level in the G7.

Germany and France also welcomed the agreement, although French Finance Minister Bruno Le Maire said he would fight for a higher global minimum corporate tax rate than 15 percent, which he described as a "starting point".

German finance minister Olaf Scholz said the deal was "bad news for tax havens around the world".

"Companies will no longer be in a position to dodge their tax obligations by booking their profits in the lowest-tax countries," he added.

Irish finance minister Paschal Donohoe, whose country is potentially a big loser with its 12.5% tax rate, said any global deal also needed to take account of smaller nations.

Sunak said the deal was a "huge prize" for taxpayers, but it was too soon to know how much money it would raise for Britain.

The agreement does not make clear exactly which businesses will be covered by the rules, referring only to "the largest and most profitable multinational enterprises".

European countries have feared that a business such as Amazon could slip through the net as it reports lower profit margins than most other well-known technology companies.
